Please note, this article refers to a production fault back in 2022. We worked hard to ensure that every affected customer was contacted back then, and thus no more issues should persist. However, you're of course always welcome to contact us if you have any doubts.
What happened:
From time to time things don’t go according to plan. That’s how life is sometimes. But we like to think that when things do go wrong we act fast and efficiently to make sure they are fixed as quickly as possible. In June 2022 we were alerted to an issue with the seatbelt straps of the twin seat. We take any and all issues with our bikes and products extremely seriously, and the health and safety of our customers is at the forefront of everything we do. As such, we immediately started our own testing to confirm the issue and informed all dealers within the same week. We worked with our dealers to get in touch with customers who had purchased the belts so we could send them new ones as quickly as possible.
What was the problem?
The German automobile organisation, ADAC, notified us of the fact that there was more than the acceptable level of a certain type of phthalate in the yellow tab on the seatbelts - this is a chemical added to plastic to help keep the plastic flexible. We promptly tested the material to confirm this and found out that a supplier had changed the materials without our knowledge.
What action did Larry vs Harry take?
That week we sent an email to all dealers to advise them of this fact whilst we were conducting our own tests to verify the results. Further to this we instructed customers to cut off the yellow plastic tabs so they could continue using their seatbelts until we sent them new ones. We rectified the issue with the supplier and sent out new seatbelts to all affected customers.
Was every seatbelt affected?
No. The issue was limited to seatbelts with a serial number ending in 2. This serial number can be seen on the yellow tab itself. All new and unaffected seatbelts have a serial number ending in 3.
We like to give our customers the best possible experience with our bikes, and we spend a lot of time ensuring our bikes and products are the best out there, and we truly believe they are. Whilst we worked hard at the time to contact everyone who could have an affected seatbelt we understand if you would like to double check. If you think that you might have an affected seatbelt that has not been replaced, please get in touch with us and we can replace it for you.
