Remember when we said ’71 left a mark? That year defined legends, ended eras, and sparked new beginnings. If the Bluebird was a tribute to that spirit, the Lizzard King picks up right where it left off—another chapter, another legend, and yes, another Bullitt Colour Story.

In 2012, Harry packed his bags and headed south to Eurobike, the legendary annual cycling pilgrimage in Southern Germany. He had one clear mission in mind: find inspiration for a fresh Bullitt colour. In his mind, the answer seemed obvious—matte black. However, as Harry wandered the exhibition halls, he quickly recognised a hard truth: every brand had already painted their bikes matte black. Matte black had become the New black, the industry’s standard. It had become too predictable.

Larry & Harry have always ridden their own wave. So Harry scrapped his original idea and looked for a colour that would stand out. Though the exact moment inspiration struck is lost in the haze of history (or perhaps a late-night playlist), one thing remained clear: the new Bullitt would be dressed in a light shade of green.

And the name? It needed an identity to match its swagger. Harry reached into the sonic archives of rock ’n’ roll and blues. He borrowed from Jim Morrison, the enigmatic frontman of The Doors—famously known as the "Lizard King"—and fused it with the spirit and flair of Texas boogie legends ZZ Top. The "Lizzard King" was born. Read it again, you'll get it. Lizzard King, what a cool name, references and spelling was that?!

But style needs substance, and the bike wasn't complete without its own unique graphics. A lizard silhouette stretched along the frame, paired with snakeskin-patterned chain stays, two distinctive stars adorned the Bullitt: one proudly representing a win at the Messenger World Championship in Tokyo, 2009, and another marking triumph in Chicago, 2012. These stars marked victories and carried pride as badges of honor.

From the moment the Lizzard King hit the streets, Bullitteers embraced it wholeheartedly. The colour was fresh, distinctive, and quickly propelled it into our top-selling Bullitts since its introduction.

Yet as Dylan once wisely sang, "the times they are a-changin'." In 2020, when the entire Bullitt lineup received a graphic update, the Lizzard King underwent its own (r)evolution. Still green, still proudly wearing its snakeskin, but now with a slightly subdued edge. Some speculated we’d softened with age. But at Larry vs Harry, we prefer to say that we simply listen closely and deliver exactly what our Bullitteers want, sometimes before they even knew they wanted it.

And you know what? Like every Bullitt model, the Lizzard King comes with its own signature accessories-the BBX Sidepanel Kit, and matching Billboards. And if you’re feeling old-school, we’ve still got a few Sidepanels in the previous colourway.

Just like a great blues record, the Lizzard King has kept its edge, continuing to inspire riders who appreciate a Bullitt with soul—and a bit of rock ’n’ roll.

Now stop reading, start riding, and turn that mixtape way up.
